The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has announced that the 13th salary for public sector workers will be distributed at the end of this month (March).
He had previously signaled this decision earlier in the month during a meeting of the General Council of Lëvizja Vetëvendosje, where he outlined key priorities of the government and the financial framework for the year ahead.
According to Kurti, this additional payment is already incorporated into the 2026 state budget, which is estimated to amount to approximately 4 billion euros. The inclusion of the 13th salary reflects the government’s stated commitment to improving the welfare of public sector employees and recognizing their contribution to state institutions.
Kurti also emphasized that the budget introduces a significant change regarding compensation for work experience. Specifically, the allowance for years of service will increase from 0.25% to 0.50% for each year of experience during the first 15 years. This measure is expected to provide long-term financial benefits for employees and incentivize continuity and professional development within the public sector.
The 2026 budget was approved by the Assembly of Kosovo on February 20, receiving 62 votes in favor. However, it did not gain the support of opposition parties, which have raised concerns over various aspects of fiscal policy, spending priorities, and transparency.
Overall, the announcement of the 13th salary and the increase in experience-based allowances are being presented by the government as part of a broader effort to strengthen public administration, enhance economic stability, and address the needs of public servants amid ongoing economic challenges.
